There are 3 types of solar setups:
 

• Grid-tied: This type of solar system is made up of solar panels and an inverter but does not include battery storage. This means you can only draw power from your solar system while the sun is shining. Your house remains connected to the grid.
• Hybrid: This solar system does include batteries, which means you’ll be able to use your stored power during loadshedding, at night or during periods of cloudy weather. Your house remains connected to the grid.
• Off-grid: This is a very large solar system that has enough generation ability and battery storage capacity to cover all your family’s electricity requirements and allows your home to be disconnected from Eskom’s power grid permanently.
